Sited near the historic Whalehead Club at Corolla in Currituck County, the center has classrooms, an exhibit hall and a waterfowl decoy gallery. Several exhibits will focus on the barrier island environment and its wildlife, including migrating waterfowl and the many fish species that live in estuaries. Other exhibits present the region's history through its hunting and fishing heritage. Because the center is located on the Currituck Sound, it will offer visitors a chance to experience a barrier island first-hand.
